I read this tweet today and have made a decision: “The secret to building a great blog was never a secret: create amazing content, consistently”  (Jon Acuff). I’ve realized I’m not making amazing content for this blog. I’m not giving it 100% and that’s not fair to myself or my readers. I want to be deliberate this year and do things because I enjoy them – not out of some sense of obligation. I’m going to let this blog simmer for a while. I’m still very much excited about my snidbits blog and am looking forward to what’ s happening with it! I just don’t feel the same way about this one. I feel like I’m giving sub-standard (no pun intended) content and I don’t like that feeling. Maybe in a little while I’m be able to come back with a whole different perspective and give this the attention it deserves. Thank you to those of you who’ve remained loyal and left comments – you’re the reason I started this blog. I wanted to help others and share advice I wish I had known when I first began subbing. So we’ll see if taking a break doesn’t make me miss it and I’ll be back. Thanks again for sticking with me :)

just there

Student teachers are a great thing. Not only do they already know the classroom routine and the kids but in the few instances I’ve worked with them, I’m there to assist them. I can just watch as they pretty much do everything – I’m just there to technically be the teacher. Though the easy days are a nice break, it’s also cool to be able to observe and take notes. It’s a great learning experience so when you have the chance to work with a student teacher, be prepared to take notes :)

finish year

One of the blogs I read on a daily basis is by Jon Acuff. The other day he talked about his goals for next year, or Finish Year as he’s calling it. Finish Year is about making attainable goals instead of lofty, how-on-earth-am-I-going-to-do-that goals. I fit into the second category but am excited to work on making smaller goals that will ultimately lead to the bigger ones. I’ve been debating what to do with this blog. Should I keep it or let it quietly dissolve? It’s not where I want it to be though it’s still in its beginning stages. I’m thinking about the direction Sub-Stantial Impact will take (among other things) but what about you? What goals will you make for next year?

sleeping late

I don’t know about you but the county I work in is now out for Christmas break. I’m excited about the time off but mostly about the extra sleep I’ll be getting :) It won’t be dark when I get up and I’m looking forward to that. I have a list of things I want to get done before the break is over but I plan on fitting in a little relaxing as well.

don’t leave!

So I’ve been having issues with my home internet, making it hard for me to post. I had all of my ideas ready to share with you but technology had other plans :( I’m working on getting it fixed and super excited about 2012! It’s going to be a great year and an awesome journey! Thanks for coming along with me :)

I’ve started keeping books with me to read in case I need to fill time for any reason – and it’s been a great help! It’s so fun to have the kids listening and knowing you have their attention. These are some of the books I’ve read lately:
